OCTACAN 2024

Family Works are excited to announce that our major winter food drive, OCTACAN, is happening on Thursday 20 June, 7:30am – 2pm in the Lower Octagon!

This marks the shortest day and the lead up to the Matariki public holiday. Matariki, marked by the reappearance of the Matariki star cluster in our night sky, is a time for reflection, celebration, harvest and future planning.

This season, we invite you to help us plan for the year ahead and re-stock our Family Works Foodbank by donating cans to Dunedin’s busiest foodbank.

Reaching out to the foodbank is often just the start of the journey whānau and individuals take with us. Our Family Works team recognise everyone has a unique story, offering tailored support that can range from food parcels and social work assistance to financial mentoring, emergency housing aid, or winter clothing. Our social workers are seeing a growing number of working families seeking help.

You can help by:

  • Start Collecting Cans

  • Spread the Word

  • Join the Fun

We look forward to your participation and support, as it is vital for helping our foodbank meet the needs of the community this winter. Together, we can make a difference in the lives of many.
